Money Styles

You're taking the big step and combining households. You agree on so many things, and love so much about your partner, that you may not pay attention to your different money styles. There is a strong likelihood that the person you've chosen to share your life with will have a very different style of making decisions about money. On top of this: a) you're both independent people, your individually successful and have had challenging financial experiences prior to this relationship, and b) you bring with you the imprinted attitudes and beliefs about money that result from your early childhood. It's not surprising that couples have trouble communicating about money.

Agreements

Right or wrong and good or bad - these are not constructive concepts when dealing with money. What works are agreements, made early and with mindful consideration of the needs of both parties, and supported with direct, non-judgmental communication.
